Two Thirds of Businesses Fear Social Networking Sites

October 23rd, 2009

With the rise in social media today, there also comes an inherent rise in misuse of networking sites. This misuse can come from an employee spending too much time on the website, or from cybercriminals who are looking to use information you put on your profiles to steal identities. Many companies have expressed a fear of social networking sites for these reasons.

One in four companies has reported attacks via social networking sites. Recently an IT security firm out of London called Sophos, did some research on the subject. The link that follows has a detailed article giving all of the findings about how companies truly feel about social networking sites and the amount of employees they have using the sites.

Are you ready to ride the Google wave?

October 8th, 2009

Google has done it again! Creating an innovative new online tool that is sure to reinvent once again the way we communicate, work, and share information. I recently came across the new tool and was literally BLOWN AWAY, by the possibilities.

What is Google Wave? (Below is the company’s brief description)

A wave is equal parts conversation and document . People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

A wave is shared . Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.

A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.

Embed waves in other sites or add live social gadgets, thanks to Google Wave’s API’s.

This brief description doesn’t do the tool justice, check out this video for a first hand look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBzuuWZPaXc

Google wave accounts are currently only available in limited amounts, you can request your account by logging in (or creating) your Google account.

In what ways can you see yourself using Google Wave?

Do you think this will emerge as a more social or business oriented technology?
